Instructional Coaching
Creating Sustainable Change
What We Offer
At CORE-NMSU, we contract coaches in every part of the state. Our coaches have all been educators in New Mexico and part of the communities in which they serve. Our team of coaches comprises a diverse group of educators, coaches, administrators, interventionists, National Board-Certified teachers, bilingual teachers, special education teachers, and adult educators who bring unique expertise. We offer personalized instructional coaching and an individualized approach to professional development in education. This method tailors coaching experiences to meet each educator's unique needs, strengths, and goals.
Here is what you can expect from your dedicated coach:

-
Individualized Support: Coaches work closely with teachers to understand their specific challenges and aspirations, creating a customized coaching plan that addresses their unique context and teaching style.
-
Goal-Oriented Collaboration: The coach and teacher set clear, achievable goals based on the teacher's needs and student outcomes. This collaborative process ensures that the coaching is relevant and impactful.
-
Flexible Coaching Methods: Coaches employ various strategies and techniques, such as classroom observations, modeling lessons, co-teaching, and providing resources, adapting their approach to fit the teacher's preferences and learning style.
-
Ongoing Feedback and Reflection: Personalized coaching emphasizes regular feedback and reflection, allowing teachers to assess their progress, adjust, and celebrate successes.
-
Focus on Student Outcomes: Personalized instructional coaching aims to enhance student learning. Coaches help teachers implement effective instructional strategies that are responsive to the diverse needs of their students.
How We Do It
Our coaching philosophy is deeply rooted in the TCC Model. TCC stands for Trust, Collaboration, and Capacity Building.

1. Trust
-
Foundation of Relationships: Trust is the cornerstone of effective coaching. Coaches work to establish a safe and supportive environment where teachers feel comfortable sharing their challenges and successes.
-
Open Communication: Building trust involves transparent communication, where both coaches and teachers can express their ideas, concerns, and feedback without fear of judgment.
-
Confidentiality: Coaches respect the confidentiality of their interactions with teachers, which helps to cultivate a sense of security and openness.
2. Collaboration
-
Shared Goals: Coaches and teachers work together to identify common goals that align with student needs and educational objectives. This collaborative process ensures that coaching is focused and relevant.
-
Teamwork: The model promotes a team-oriented approach, where coaches and teachers collaborate on lesson planning, classroom strategies, and problem-solving.
-
Peer Support: Encouraging collaboration among teachers can lead to shared learning experiences, allowing educators to learn from one another and build a community of practice.
3. Capacity Building
-
Skill Development: The TCC model focuses on enhancing teachers' instructional skills and strategies, empowering them to become more effective educators.
-
Sustained Growth: Capacity building involves ongoing professional development opportunities that are tailored to the needs of individual teachers and the school community.
-
Empowerment: The model aims to foster a sense of ownership and agency among teachers, enabling them to take charge of their professional growth and make informed decisions about their teaching practices.
We are intentional in our coaching approach and employ our unique coaching cycle:
Why We Do This Work
-
According to a New Mexico Public Education Department report, schools that implemented instructional coaching saw a 20% increase in student proficiency rates on standardized tests over three years.
-
A New Mexico Center for School Leadership study indicated that 85% of teachers who received coaching reported improved confidence in their instructional abilities.

Instructional coaching provides personalized support that helps teachers improve their instructional practices, leading to increased student engagement and achievement. Research shows that students of teachers who receive coaching score higher on standardized assessments. Coaches assist educators in implementing evidence-based strategies, which are particularly effective in challenging contexts, such as those faced by many students in New Mexico. Unlike isolated workshops, coaching offers ongoing professional development, allowing for real-time feedback and support. Additionally, coaches foster collaborative environments where teachers can share best practices, enhancing school culture and community focused on student success. This support system also contributes to higher retention rates of effective teachers, which is crucial for maintaining continuity and quality in education, especially in areas with high teacher turnover.
